He was a young man who suffered a TBI in Cavendish, Vermont, 1848, when he had an iron tamping bar forced through his head during an explosion. I've included a link about him. Very interesting story. He became world famous for a time because he survived the accident with what looked like very little permanent damage. However, his story doesn't have the happy ending that Nate's does.
